We invite research presentations from all perspectives of African-American language, literacy, and culture for the Advancing African American Linguist(ic)s symposium at UC Davis during the 2019 LSA Linguistic Institute. We also invite papers that support the professional development of African-American linguists. Papers will be 20 minutes with 10 minutes of questions. There will also be a poster session. Please send abstracts of 500 words or less confined to 1 page of text by April 25 to Bibliography, glossed/transcribed examples, and images are allowed to appear on a second page of text and do not count toward the abstract word limit.

Abstracts that are exclusively authored by undergraduate and/or graduate students are especially encouraged. We also encourage group submissions.

There is limited funding available by application for selected presenters on a case-by-case basis.

Notifications will be sent to selected presenters by May 3.

We will also be hosting professional development round tables on publication, tenure and promotion and strengthening the network of scholars who study African-American language, literacy and culture.
